Class Description
Let's get baking! Your Junior Chef will roll up their sleeves and spend four delicious days learning the fundamentals of baking—starting with simple treats and building toward impressive pastry skills. This hands-on camp focuses on classic breakfast favorites and snackable bakes, helping kids gain confidence, practice kitchen safety, and understand how doughs, batters, and fillings come together from scratch. Instructor Laura Thomsen, our creative mind behind many of our Junior Chef classes and Family Friendly Cooking classes will be guiding your Junior Chef through their culinary adventure.
Day 1: Cookies & Muffins
Camp kicks off with familiar favorites as bakers learn essential mixing techniques while making snickerdoodles and blueberry streusel muffins. Kids will practice measuring, creaming, and baking while learning what makes cookies chewy and muffins tender.
Day 2: Pies & Scones
On day two, campers step up their skills by working with pastry dough and fillings. They’ll create Mini Fruit Pies and bake both sweet and savory scones, learning how to handle dough gently and balance flavors for breakfast and snack-time treats.
Day 3: Bread Basics & Pastry Prep
Day three introduces yeast and dough development. Campers will make fresh bread and rolls, learning how kneading and proofing work. They’ll also make Focaccia Bread Dough for pizza creations the next day.
Day 4: Toaster Tarts
The final day is all about fun finishing touches. Campers will top their focaccia dough with cheese and a choice of favorite toppings. The camp wraps up with fruit-filled toaster tarts, complete with frosting and colorful sprinkles—an exciting, creative finale to the week.
By the end of camp, kids will leave with new baking skills, plenty of tasty treats, and the confidence to keep baking at home—all while having a great time in the kitchen!
Notes:
Please click here for a full description of our policies and FAQ’s. Finalization of your registration tells us that you have read and understand them. Below is a summary of some of the key information, but it is not all-inclusive.
- For the safety of all participants, we require the following: (1) Long hair must be tied back, restrained, or covered during class. (2) Closed-toe, non-slip shoes must be worn at all times in the kitchen. No sandals or open-toed footwear permitted. (3) Appropriate kitchen attire is required. Long pants are recommended to protect against potential burns or spills. Participants who do not comply with these safety requirements may be asked to adjust their attire or may be unable to participate in cooking activities. We appreciate your cooperation in maintaining a safe learning environment.
- Please enjoy a 10% discount on all items in our retail store during the full calendar day/night of your class or event. Our retail store will be open for browsing prior to class, during any breaks, and after class.
- For multi-session classes and camps, we will gladly give you a full refund if you need to cancel more than three weeks prior to the start of the first class in the series and/or camp. Within three weeks of the start of a series, no refunds or credits will be given. Please note that any refund issued for classes purchased using a Gift Certificate or Account Credit will result in reinstatement of the original Gift Card or Account Credit and will bear the same expiration date. Account Credits issued for cancelations within three weeks of a class will expire one year from the date of issuance. We reserve the right to cancel a class for any reason, at any time, in which case you will receive a full refund. In the event your child misses a class in the series or camp, no refunds will be given and it is not possible to make up the class(es) in a future similar series. Likewise, once the series or camp has begun, no substitutions will be allowed since the series is designed for the classes to build upon each other.
- If (a) you’d like to sit with another registered guest, or (b) have any food allergies or dietary restrictions, please let us know in the Comments section of your registration after reading our full description of policies and information about classes. Please note that children on the same registration form will automatically be seated together.
- Your registration tells us that you have read through the class description including the age requirements for that particular class.
- For Junior Chef (ages 9-14) classes and camps: Your child must be at least 9 years old as of the first class date (or as of the date of the first class of a series or camp) and no more than 14 years old. We reserve the right to check the age of your child. You must provide an Under 18 Waiver that is signed by a parent or legal guardian. Click here for a copy of the Under 18 Waiver. We encourage you to download, print, and sign the waiver and bring it to class with your child. If someone other than the parent signs a Waiver, they will need a legal document to be presented that shows without question that they have the legal authority to sign a Waiver on behalf of your child at that time. Without an appropriately signed Waiver, your child will not be allowed to attend the class. If someone other than the parent drops off your child and requests to sign on behalf of a child, they will need evidence that they are a legal guardian for that child. Please choose the class that is right for the developmental level and maturity of your child.
